It's not. 
Lots of things influence the torque characteristics of an engine, but the number of cylinders has very little to do with it.
As for the Soarer, you'd really have to compare it to a big Euro tourer like the BMW 540. Local products like the Commodore and Falcon just aren't in the same league.
