As far as insurance goes, I think the 2T-G Ta22 was available new in Aus. This should make the premiums affordable.

The TA22 GT was never officially imported by Toyota Australia. There are a few genuine GT's kicking around but they're all grey imports (some were privately imported new). Having said that, insurance still shouldn't be much of a problem if you go to the right insurer. It is after all a 25+ year old car with a 1.6 litre engine!
