i am very fussy when it comes to my TA22 and i spared no expense, and spent a lot of time to get my 6x9's just right. i began by removing that flimsy parcel shelf cover and used it as a template for a new MDF parcel shelf. now when it comes to thickness, the thicker the better, and i went for 18mm. now the location is a problem cos the cut outs on the metal parccel shelf are too small and in the wrong location for correct placement, so i got out the tin snips and the hacksaw and made sure there was enough room. with the 18mm shelf, and the speakers dropped in there was about 3mm clearance from the magnet on the speaker to the edges on the fuel tank. sweet!!! make sure you bolt down your MDF parcel shelf as good as possible. in fact i used 6 T-nuts that are not visible as they are covered in carpet, and the seat belt bolts also help to hold it down. also a sheet of sound deadenning between the MDF and the metal will make it sound better too. i used self adhesive bonet sound deadener. with it set up as it, the sound is so good, that the 6x9's running only off my head unit are often mistaked for subwoofers. most people can't believe that i don't have even an amp. check the pics on my site, i think there may be some shots with the speakser visible.
