it sound slike ther eis something mechanically interfereing with the head seating on the block. if the dowels are too long or not properly aligned, you can still torque it up, but it doesn't even begin to seal..
pull the head off, check the gasket carefully to see if it has been compressed at the metal ring at the oil feed hole. if not, there was no pressure on it.
with no gasket, check that the head sits neatly onto the block, if it doesn't touch the block, then the gasket will not be compressed.
check your head bolts are not bottoming out...
check both the block and the head for straightness, a small amount of warpage can be taken up by the gaskets, but too much and a slight shave will be needed. if in doubt take it to a reputable head shop to have it checked. i recommend Sydney Clutch and Brake near botany rd, alexandria...
