How does one go about cleaning these out with having to dissasemble the bottom end?

good luck Rolling Eyes

it really takes a screwdriver and a wire bottle brush to get the scale out (theyre big and chunky mineral deposits - and a bit of rust too, but nothing at all like a mild surface rust).

theres no way to scrape the flakes and big chunks (of which there will be many) out of the block wthout taking off the head, timing cover, and knocking out the welch plugs...
