the blue top FR engine comes out of the AE86,which was built between '83 and '86,so yes,they're pretty old and tired engines now.
as for power loss due to age,you have to expect something. no engine can be 18yrs old,have done over 100k kms(maybe 200) and still be as strong as when new.
don't ever believe what a wrecker says regarding engine kms.
all the imported engines have supposedly "low km" or "40-50k km".
it's crap. they have no idea,and neither do the guys in japan who cut them out about as gently as a boner in an abbatoir.
$800 for a bare long engine with no ecu or accessories is expensive. however,FR version of the engine are starting to get quite rare,so it may be worth buying,and sourcing the other parts you'll need to get it going elsewhere/later on.
