the Gt4 name has been linked with the Caldina wagon in japan ( 3sgte awd wagon ) in recent months - but its still not a Gt4 ..
the Corolla could NEVER wear the gt4 badge - primarily cause they now have the SPORTIVO which has the celica motor in it anyway ..
the logical step from here - if toyota doesnt plan to kill the celica like it did the supra - AND loose all its sportscar loving public is to turbocharge or increase HP in the current celica - OR go AWD with the celica format and resurrect the Gt4.
there is NOTHING at current in the toyota line up to match the WRX and the EVO's , and as for the next step up - whats there - empty space as well!
hindsight is that toyota currently dont give a shit in australia about perfornamce image - their happy selling tarted up family movers with no extra go , or econoboxes with bodykits badged

At least all the other car makers have done something to inspire some enthusiasm for product in recent years ( holden with the monaro - ford with its xr6 turbo and GT , Subaru with the B4 libertys and STI wrx's , mitsubishi with the " ralliart " magna + awd , and Evo etc ) - toyota - yAWN factor of 10 !
The corolla was never intended to be a sportscar - no matter HOW HARD they try with bodykits and adopted motors - the celica - Mr2 and Supra are toyotas Flagship Sportscars
before anyone goes " well what about the corolla rallycar " well it STILL had adapted celica running gear in it - Exactly like the current one campaigned by neal bates .. Under that corolla shell - is the heart and drivetrain of a St205 WRC celica GT4..
id prefer to go out and spend $25K on an old GT4 - or MR2 - or supra that i know has the go , the looks , and the image to back it up , then buy a plastic fatastic that mum can look sporty in driving to the shopping centre, or to pick up kids
end rant - and LONG LIVE pre 1998 Toyorta sportscars !
