I suspect I'm talking to myself but anyway..... As some of you may know, the 2JZGE VVTi motor has 10.5:1 CR versus the non VVTi motor at only 10:1. How did it achieve this? I bought a VVTi piston from Toyota and checked. Here are the crowns (VVTi piston on the right): and here are the skirts (VVTi on the right): As you can see the dish is slightly deeper in the VVTi piston, but the valve reliefs are much shallower, in particular the exhaust valve flycuts. The VVTi motors run about 2mm less lift than the non VVTi motors. The side view shows that they share the same compression height and gudgeon pin diameter (22mm). The ring lands are about 1.5 mm higher up on the VVTi motor, but the most interesting thing is the much shorter skirt on the VVTi motor and significantly lighter weight (358 vs 384 grams). I'll be popping one into a test block I have and will see if the valves clash with the pistons. Hope this is handy info for someone. Cheers Dave.
