Re: 1J Spark Plugs / Gap ? Tue, 02 July 2002 08:22 Go to previous messageGo to previous message
Thanks guys.
Recommendations so far are:-

Nippon Denso PK20R 8 gapped to 0.9mm
Halo H-9A's gapped to 0.9mm
NGK BKR6EP-8 gap to 0.9mm
NGK BKR6E gapped at 0.028"/~0.71mm
Unknown gapped to 0.028"/~0.71mm
Standard gapped to 0.8mm

I hope my calculation of 0.028" to ~0.71mm is about right.

Advice against Platinum plugs seems to be pretty universal. Would this mean that normal plugs would need to be changed more regularly than platinum ones and if so at what frequency?

There seems to be two distinct trains of thought on gapping (assuming my imperial to metric calcs are accurate), 0.9 mm or 0.7mm as well as the standard 0.8mm. Can anyone explain the theory/experience behind the gap differences? Will fuel RON impact the recommended gap?

Anyone else with input? The Halo's come very highly recommended with apparent considerable performance gains and fuel economy improvement.
