Steve M Forums Junkie Location: Adelaide Registered: June 2003	Re: what to look for when buying a secondhand 18RG Thu, 03 July 2003 03:57 first thing, look for missing parts, if anything is missing it will be difficult to find a replacement. check the chain tensioner, ie. lift the cam cover and have a good look at chain tension and every thing under there. turn the engine with a wrench. You should hear some good gas flow around the valves and througn the ports. It may help to take the plugs out for the first couple of turns to loosen it up without too much energy. Ask why it is not in a car now if it is a private sale, most people with them need a good reason to take them out. if it doesn't have an intake manifold, look for corrosion around the three water ports on the intake side. I am sure there are other things, but my brother got one that looked shit and was incomplete but when we opened it up it looked like it was almost a recon (minus the chain dampers, which were shit except for the tensioner slipper).
