I have recently rebuilt a 3TGTEU. I could not run it with the turbo due to legal issues, but wanted to have it run in so at least i could sell it, so i looked into fooling the computer to run without the extra boost from the turbo.

$600 worth of labour later I was back where i started. The computer is VERY difficult to fool, and with most models impossible to reprogram. We got it close, it would run for awhile in all rpms but when it was warm it would start smoking, which wasn't good enough for me.

Things that the auto electricians tried-

-resistor across the thermo sensor, if you put a resistor in parallel with the sensor it will decrease impedance, hence fool the computer to think its warmer, hence leaner. So if you wanted a richer mixture then try putting a resistor in series with the thermo sensor. This should change the mixture in all rpms.

-resistor across the air temperature sensor in the air flow meter, this should do the same as the thermo sensor trick.

-Air Flow Meter spring- this only works for high rpms, but by tightening the spring the meter moves less for more air, hence the computer puts less fuel in. So if you wanted it a little richer loosen the spring. They had the engine running lean in high revs, so i think this trick works well depending how much you change the spring stiffness by.

-Also make sure your Pe connection is hooked up, the fuel enrichment for when boost comes in.

Just remember that the map inside the computer cannot be changed, you can only fool the ecu to think there are different conditions. Aftermarket is always the best option.

Goodluck.
