your charge light should be off at all time, EVEN AT IDLE. you may have a interenal regulator, which means that its inside the alternator, or you may have and external which is self explanitary, im not sure about your model but you will have one of the two.
check that the altinator belt is tight and check that the charge light wire off the altinator has not fallen off, if so just plug it back in away you go. if the belt is loose, it will mean that the altinator pully will slip and will reduce the amount of charge that you are recieving, just cause you have 14.v of surface charge in you battery does not mean that it will remain that way when put under load.
