(it's already ~80%) Thu, 24 July 2003 06:27 funny thread to get all technical about it.... heat capacity (at constant volume) of nitrogen vs air is 0.71 vs 0.72 (kJ/kg.K) so no difference there. from http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/24_159.html gas density at zero deg C. nitrogen vs air = 1.250 vs 1.293 (kg/m^3) (same site) stuff all.. viscosity at (0°C,101 kPa) nitrogen vs air = 1.66^-05 vs 1.71E-05 (N*s/m2) air has _higher_ viscosity (so should leak less) also, "Valve Leakage Classifications ANSI/FCI 70-2 1976" states that for class 6 leakage (lowest leak rate) they specify using air OR nitrogen for the testing, so there can't be that much difference. "Nitrogen benefits 'over-inflated', says RACQ" heh heh http://www.racq.com.au/13_news/articles/20030610_N itrogen_benefi.htm seems that the only reason to use 'nitrogen' is becuase it has a lower level of water impurity (as it usually comes in bottles) i apologise for getting all techy, but at least ya know the facts... there is nothing between them (except the oxidation at higher temps) [Updated on: Thu, 24 July 2003 06:31] [Report message to a moderator]
