Fri, 25 July 2003 03:31 Soft springs and lots of squat are exactly what you want for the drags - it maximises weight transfer to the rear wheels, thus increasing grip. Have a look at any serious drag car and you'll see they're set up with very soft rear suspension. Hard springs are for circuit racers, not drag racers! 11's certainly are possible with better tyres and a working LSD (mine is pretty much a single-spinner now). As I've said before, I'm not looking to do a better time for fear of breaking something! It would be cool to do an 11, but not while the car is my daily driver. Pete: As GT pointed out, terminal speed was actually 187 so I was well into 4th gear, in fact I think I hit the rev limiter just after I crossed the line. Remember I have pretty low gearing (4.1:1)... chances are you wouldn't hit 4th in your car since you have more revs to play with and taller gearing. You certainly do lose time changing gears, so if you find yourself at the top of 3rd just before the finish line it may be worthwhile to just let it bounce off the rev limiter instead of changing into 4th. It's one of those things you'd have to try back-to-back to see what works best. [Report message to a moderator]
