gianttomato Forums Junkie I supported Toymods Location: I renounced punctuation Registered: May 2002	Re: flywheel (?) is making a squeaking/rattling noise Mon, 28 July 2003 07:25 Let's just say we spent 5 hours under a certain brown Corona 2 door trying to find some godawful metallic noise that for the life of me sounded like it was coming from the back of the engine. We sequentially removed bits of drivetrain till we were left with the flywheel. We shimmed the starter motor and ground 2-3mm off the end of the flywheel bolts - still this terrible noise. Only when we sat under the car and blipped the throttle to coax the sound did we notice the muffler bellowing like an accordion. Dropped the muffler (straight out the engine pipes!) and sat under the car (my ears are still recovering)....no more noise. Whilst I am annoyed that a shitty muffler caused the noise (the noise was very metallic), I am relieved that the motor is fine. [Report message to a moderator]
