If your budget can extend to having a spare set of wheels and tyres for the track, then by all means do it. 17" track tyres (some semi comps like Yokohama A032R or Dunlop DJ01) would be great but you'd wear them out quick smart with day to day driving. A set of either of the ones I mentioned would last about 1.5 - 2 years of regular sprinting (1/month and no flatspots!). The flip side of course is that if you'd want to do enough track days to warrant getting tyres otherwise your beautiful sticky tyres will go all hard and shitty - you might as well have bought some 'Rocktronic' taxi specials.
Before you get rid of your 15" wheels, second hand track tyres can be had rather cheaply and easily for them. Your 17" stuff on the other hand will be rather expensive. For reference, a 205 50 16 A032R costs around $330.
Food for thought!
