SXer Regular Location: Sydney Registered: May 2002	Re: More Ethanol on Today Tonight Tue, 29 July 2003 08:15 A few thoughts to add fuel to this fire: 1.) 87% of ethanol production in Australia comes from wheat and grain products not the sugar industry. The gov't is subsidising the Manildra group in order to protect national party seats in the country. In other places (eg Brazil) ethanol is primarily produced from sugar industry by-products. CSR exports most of the ethanol it produces to south-east asia to be used in beverages. 2.) In Australia, oil companies have a vested interest in telling you that ethanol is bad for your car. They have not financial incentive to push a product that would reduce their throughput of regular petrol. The same big oil companies that claim ethanol is dangerous in Australia regularly include it in their product range in other developed countries. If ethanol is an "oxygenate" shouldn't any EFI car fitted with an O2 sensor be able to adjust the fuel injection to correct for the changing levels of O2? Finally - please don't believe every/anything you see on "Today Tonight". Remember these poor people have to come up with something designed to outrage their viewers every night regardless of whether it coincides with the truth or not...
