Thankyou guys, I bought a seperator fork and got the idler arm off okay, but the pitman really is a pain in the arse. I am going to have to get a volunteer and try the pole and sledge hammer trick, lucky I kept that old panhard rod, perfect me thinks as a whacking stick.
