To try to sum it up a bit, all the parts in your engine have close tolerance fits, and they're designed to fit best when it's all at operating temp, which is quite hot. Because the metal expands when it's hot, it doesn't actually fit very well when it's cold, which is also why you'll hear people say things like "90% of engine wear happens in the first 5 minutes of running".
Try using a thinner oil for winter, & go back to something a bit thicker for summer. I normally use 25w-70 for summer & 15w-50 for winter, but my motor uses a bit of oil so I go a bit thicker than normal.
