Don't forget that the Crown was the first car to have self cancelling indicators. Also released with the M series was Toyota's first attempt at electronic overdrive. The car came with a 3 speed column shift but the box was fitted with a range of solenoids and an extension housing full of planetary gears. Depending on speed and load, the overdrive could be activated simply be depressing the accelerator pedal. At highway cruising speed, you could simply mash the loud pedal and the overdrive would kick down (much like an auto). Overtaking was a breeze. I loved mine. M and Crown, what a combination.
