yeah i tried both ways just to be sure but either way its still cold down the bottom on both sides and i THINK i may know why now.
the thing i didnt mention is, i have a davies craig thermo fan on the front of the radiator. what i think happens is the water travels from the top hose down through the radiator and to the back of the water pump. the fan must be set to go off at a lower temp than the thermostat, therefor while im sitting there at idle and not driving the water in the head gets really hot, but the fan cools the radiator so the water is cool at the bottom hose. i think i have two options: set the fan to go on later, or put the thermostat in the top hose somehow, and i think that may be the better option althoughi will have to make some crazy long hose that goes out and comes back in so i can fit more things in it rather than have it go straight to the radiator. will look crap and bodgy (like the rest of my car) but should work best.
