2.5 inch pipe seems excessive, you'd be losing quite alot of of your low band power, and as it reaches high band the large pipe diametre cause a baffle, the crackle which you here...
2.5inch without known tip diameter + 2x Cats would significantly root exhaust flow...
Most likely also has an improved air filter or not ?
As for your solution, try having your A/F tuned to the correct mixture considering any aftermarkets parts. If you wanted to solve the problem permanetly have a 2 1/4 or 2 inch pipe fitted unless you plan to majorly increase your power levels.
