Hey, when we finally got my 18R-GEU up and running we found it had a stretched timing chain, Mad and the inlet valves had been hitting the pistons SO...
to answer a question yes the 18R-G's are all interference engines if thats exactly what it means? but im not sure.. but i know the late cam timing from the stretched chain made the valves hit the pistons..
I wasnt planning on doing a rebuild because i had bought the motor on an assumption that it was in good order.. but these things happen so,
ANYWAY..
i needed new:

timing chain - this was not too hard to get from Sleeka Spares, about $33
adjustable curved tensioner-guide - ALL these guides were quite hard to source and the curved-adjustable one was about $200 from S.S...
top guide - about $70
fixed curved guide - about $160
head gasket - $55 genuine Toyota
timing cover gasket - $11 from 18R-c
inlet valves - This was the hardest part to source.. but once found was amazing @ $13 each!!!

A great place to start when no where can find parts for your old motor is Stewart Wilkins Motorsport.. i was screwed until i found these guys and they were very helpful.

They had good prices and all there stuff is listed on the site..
Only problem is that adjustable guide was going to be a 4 week wait from Japan so i decided against it.. and it seems to be really tight and quiet at least now. And plus im $400 better off, seeing the complete motor only cost me $500!! I didnt exactly have the spare $$ to fork out that much for timing guides! mine werent that bad really its just something you want to replace when they are out, but when you are confronted with a price like that i will pass for now until i can afford it.

Just thought i'd let you know about what you might be in for if you want to replace the whole timing assembly. Check out the above link for some prices if you are interested and cannot find any that are cheaper. If you can, TELL ME ! hehe

Seeya,
Guy

Oh and midge are you selling another chrome front bumper? whats it like? how long ago was it re-chromed?
