I went through the same thing 2 weeks ago. I was told put a pole through the top of the engine bay on to the top of the arm and hit it with a sledge hammer. I tried this and it didn't work, I was then told cut it in 2 places with an angle grinder and repeat the bashing, I got one cut in then accidently nicked the thread with the angle grinder and got too scared and stopped that one. I bought a gear puller from sprints and that kept popping off the sides.
I was also told to get an oxy torch and heat it up on the sides to make it expand- but if you heat the steering box it warps the seals and you have to get that replaced....
I then took it to the mechanic and $45 later it was in perfect working order- he had another special puller which did the job.
Just in case other people tell you to do these things, don't bother, if it isn't coming off easily, then it isn't coming off, and probably hasn't been changed in the last 25 years.
