Thu, 11 July 2002 09:07 okay okay - i hafta say something about the tyres/wheel thingy. 17 inch rims look waaaay cool, but what do you want the car do do - look good? handle good? Save your life? Hmmm, Id go for a set of 15inch rims (in a style that appeals to you) and go the 205/60 15" tyres. Good ones. Ones that stick. eg yokohama A032R (street legal R spec competition tyres) or yoko A539 (pretty good in wet and dry but a lot more comfy & quieter than the '32R. These will set you back around $160 each (tyres only). They dont weight your steering down too much, they dont attract the law-enforcement types & they dont attract the dirtbags that enjoy the look on your face when you find your car sitting on cinderblocks and your nice shiny 17" rims missing. Dont forget to get a set of locknuts (or two) to prevent heartache and missing rims. I like the big rims, but they start to interfere with the geometry of the suspension and introduce all manner of handling issues that make the car handle worse than it does now. Besides, nothing looks dumber to me than a car with a really hot set of rims and el cheapo tyres on them coz the owner spent all their $$$ on the rims, and couldnt afford decent tyres. The rubber bit is the ONLY part that stops you sliding off the road and making a stain on the scenery - i try and remember this whenever i buy tyres. The skinnier the tyre, the less you will aquaplane if driving on wet roads. My competition rims are 185/60/15 and Im more than happy to drive the same width around during the week. (cheaper tyres though - yoko 539s - last longer) Good luck with the RA60 - i hope it has less rust than mine ever did lol - Im inclined to agree with the idea that a 4AGE will be too small for this car.
