The speakers are a task alright:
1) Lift the base or the rear seat out.
2) Unbolt the backrest, one bolt either side, ie. bottom right and bottom left.
3) Lift the backrest up, and wiggle out.
4) I had to unbolt the seat belts from the parcel shelf, to be able to move it in anyway.
5) Now you should be able to carefully lift the parcel shelf up and out.
6) Now you will see the speakers exposed, and they are mounted on some brackets. Unbolt the brackets, unplug the speakers, and remove off the brackets.
That should get you out of trouble ! 
I do have pics at home of when I did it, so I can pass them along if you like?
