TRD, got your PM, thought it'd be better to post the info here on 3TGTE's so others can read it as well!
3TGTE's come with either an oil cooled or water cooled turbo. Oil cooled turbo motors come with an oil cooler factory fitted, however it is only operational when the oil heats up - ie they have a thermostat that controls oil flow to the cooler. There is no oil flow to the cooler until the oil reaches an increased temperature.
If you have a factory oil cooled turbo motor, you can simply install the oil cooler without having to worry about the thermostat. While the oil is cool, it will bypass the cooler and head straight to the turbo via the steal main oil supply line that exits from the alloy fitting before the oil filter. Once the oil heats up, it runs through the cooler and then into the turbo via an alternate route.
If your motor was originally a factory water cooled turbo that you want to install a factory oil cooler onto, you need to install the thermostat in the end of the steel main oil supply line that exits from the alloy fitting before the oil filter.
If you want to convert an oil cooled turbo motor to a water cooled turbo unit, you will need to remove the thermostat from the line. Failure to do this will see you starve the turbo of oil once the oil heats up, as the thermostat restricts oil flow through the main oil feed line.
The oil cooler I have is a factory unit with the correct length lines too, you can find a picture of it in my ad titled "Performance Goodies For Sale" in the car parts for sale section, will PM you some details on those injectors and oil cooler!
