Re: help with hooking up a Speco tacho onto a 4A-C power Tercel

took dash appart and had a look where the standard tacho gets its power from. It has a IG '+'(I guess for ignition), IG '-' and E. Hooked up three wires, ran them out of the dash and tried all there on the tacho. As expected the IG '-' does the same as if I connect it to the '-' side of the coil. Had a look at the back of the tacho and set it to 8 cylinder (even though it is a 4) and the tacho seems to display the correct RPM now but it still moves eratically around the point it is displaying. However when you go to set the shift light (by pressing a button you have control over the needle and can set the shift point) the needle moves fine, so it does not look like a mechanical fault.
Will see an auto lec about putting a capacitor in line to even out the reading a bit so it does not bounce around. Will do this before taking it back as it just might be dodgy power. Will trying hooking up a new resister (coil resister) to see if that is what is causing the problem. (but it must be something in the stock tacho that evens it out because I took the signal from it and it still was dodgy).
