Tue, 26 August 2003 09:06 The problem is that his strut tops are running spherical bearings not the normal strut tops where they lock the shaft from spinning. The shaft is circular all the way up out of the bearing with this setup. On my rears there is a allen head drive in the top of the shaft but the front has nothing. What I did for the front ones is to get a 3" or so length of garden hose, split it lenghtways and then wrap this around the shaft. Then I got a set of vice grips and locked them down as hard as possible on hose around the strut shaft and undid the nut. Of course some penetrating lubricant would be handy and you'll probably find that using this method to tighten the strut after you install the new ones will not get rid of all of the rattles.
