Tends to be quite a common occurance on M series engines that are getting towards the 15 - 20 yo end of life...
A simple injector overhaul is the answer to your questions.. while its not the cheapest thing to get rebuilt it is well worth it... your idle will pur like a kitten and you might even notice a power increase, its that good...
Amazing what cleaned and flow tested injectors can achieve... look around the 300 dollar mark for full workshop overhaul.. parts and process are a back yard thing... or look at getting a mobile mech to have a look at it.. tends to be cheaper.. but then you wont be getting flow tests etc..
If your real keen to save money, disconnect everything from around / above the injectors to save on labour as this is the biggest killer...
Usually it's just a busted seal, but 99.99% of workshops will want to give it the overhaul... get then to check all the wiring connection if you want it done properly as these become dodgy overtime and can impede? / promote resistance.
Have fun, - as for the driving bit ? depends if you enjoy a good risk If that side of your engine gets hot enough to start a fire you should look into your cooling efficancy..
