T-VIS is good...I wouldn't disconnect it unless you've done alot of other stuff to the engine. T-VIS increases cylinder air density at low revs (allowing more petrol to burn) and it doesn't impose much restriction on the engine when it's dis-engaged (although, it does disturb the air flow a little) so the air volume (important for high end power) isn't really decreased too much.

Just remember, you need air density at low revs, and there's some aerodynamic law stating that the faster the air moves, the less dense. (Hence why the T-VIS butterflies slow the air down at low revs).

You could try removing the t-vis butterfly valves and shaft altogether, if you want another 3 or so kW top end power, but it'll be a slow bastard off the line (being a FWD, you can't exactly do 4500 rev starts effectively unless you change the suspension and get bloody good tyres). If you simply take the vacuum hose off and leave the T-VIS permanently open, you will get 0kw more at the top end, guaranteed. You'd need to remove the shafts and butterflies etc in order to actually reduce the air flow restriction.

And yeah - you still get all valves operating with/without T-VIS.

Note : Don't disconnect the ISC vacuum hoses (they are underneath the manifold right next to the T-VIS vacuum stuff).

If I were to choose a weak point of the 3S-GE it wouldn't be the T-VIS, it'd be the engine management...it's pretty damn weak.
