I've tried enquiring before about insurance and bloody AAMI wants $2200 a year for comprehensive, RACV $2700 for my STOCK Cressida. I had my VK Commodore stolen in 2000 and a year later fucked up the rear end of some old guy's Camry with my VL Calais. That might have something to do with it.
Would you insure yourself? Young driver, history of accidents/claims, in a modified car. I know I wouldn't take the risk.
That said, there is insurance out there for everyone. I know a guy who got insurance just this afternoon. Five speeding fines, one red light offence, one DUI and two resulting license losses - all in his first 5 years of driving.
Price was under $1000... but the excess is almost $3000.
