I'd offer an alternate view...
with the money you'd have to spend on an 18rg to get it to 300 horsies (forged internals, new gearbox, etc etc) you could probably do the very expensive install of a 3s-gte
plus with a 3s-gte you can always go back for more power if you want it, whereas I'd guess 300 is about the limit of the 18r-g
and the 18r-g is OLD, parts will become scarce (sp?), but since you'd have to go mostly A/M components, that may not be such an issue.
if you're looking to spend that much money, I'd probably be inclined to go the 3s-gte ... but it might be best to look around for someone who has done the conversion to get exact figures
