FWIW: in my RA40, i had a 16" davies mounted behind radiator in place of factory (clutch centre) fan and cowling...
But i went back to factory fan/cowling - takes a bit longer to warm up engine, but holds temp steady except climbing the big hill to Maleny (Qld) under heavy boost and recovers quickly afterwards now too.
opinion?: use two 12/14" thermo fans with suitable ducting to push air from front when the going gets heavy, but try to keep the factory fan with cowl to stop heat-soak under the bonnet. If you want to chuck the factory fan - keep the cowl somehow.
The earlier Rxx engines prefer to always have airflow under the bonnet.
Charles.
