Dodgy_Haro Forums Junkie Location: Brisbane Registered: July 2002	Re: Question about conversion Wed, 03 September 2003 07:19 The thing with more modern cars is that you can't really tune them / mod them as easy as older cars. 4AG engines are so easy to strip as compared with later engines which have been made in such a way to discourage people from tampering with them. I also drive a Lancer coupe as a daily car but the car that gets all my pampering is my AE86 sprinter. The Lancer is bone stock as I refuse to spend any $$$ on it as it'd be wasted. Lancers are posers - look okay with an Evo body kit but (1) performance costs a lot for little gain and (2) it'd still be FWD. The best bang for buck mod you can do is fit a turbo or supercharger kit to it but you'd be fighting for traction in a FWD car. You could polish the head, get better cams & exhaust but this will cost a bit for only a small increase. It'd still be okay if you subscribe to the FWD stable such as Honda Type R's and Civics (and those cars will still be faster than your lancer). Plus you have an Auto box, so even if you do up the engine, it'd still not be as fast off the line as a manual ... You'd probably have to source the parts like a manual gearbox, cluth pedal and so forth to convert the auto but I anticipate it'd be very complicated and will cost $$$ for someone else to do it for you.
