There are numerous utes pulling great times with no out-of-the-ordinary traction problems, even on street tyres. Some minor suspension mods make all the difference.
If you're looking at spending big bucks to go really fast, then 13BT + microtech + big turbo is probably the way to go.
If it was me.. 1JZ/2JZ/1UZ would be the only options. With a $10k budget you'd struggle to do the 2JZ properly though.
