 just traded my torana LJ for celica RA40R, need help

just got a celica RA40R,
are the RA40R an ok celica? anyone else have one? what do you think of them?
it had some serious carby problems, but i've fixed that. but now it's got some other problems, like when your driving along it will star wobbling terrible! i am pretty certian it's the tires but it wobbles so bad it's as if the axle is bent maybe.
also it's a 3 speed auto, the gears don't seem to change at the right rpm, usually have to get it up to about 5-6 rpm b4 it changes up a gear and when it does change it has quite a kick to it. how hard would it be to put a manual in it?
i'm thinking of getting an 18R-G head, but they are hard to come by, i live in tasmania.
any help will be greatly appreaciated.
