Wed, 10 September 2003 01:53 The blue celica has the newer style carbies, due to the balance tube that is on that engine I would be guessing that that is a 88250 - 88253 head. The green celica has the earlier model carbies, from looking at the throttle linkage position I would be guessing that this is a 88210 - 88230 head. (if these engines are in their complete original condition , part wise) Am I right? For preferences: For most power, here's what I'd do: for a powerful motor the early carbies should flow more (32mm venturi) than the newer ones (31mm venturi) and should be jetted to suit that size venturi from the factory (some adjustment may be needed though) THe cams from the 88210 - 88230 are better for more power at higher revs while the head from the later motor has better ports and bigger valves. The pistons from the early model are better than the later model. So if you want one really powerful 18rg and one daily driver then do this. powerful one: old pistons old carbies old cams new head (might as well port it while it's off) daily driver: new pistons new carbies (much nicer when engine is cold than the older ones) new cams (max power down lower, with good bottom end torque) old head if you don't want to swap parts over other than the carbies, I would avoid it, the 88210 - 88230 engine should be quicker as is, and the carbies from that one have been ready jetted for the bigger cams from the fatory.
