If you don't like the prices, go somewhere else! Actually, you seem convinced that they are all doing it wrong and you can do it better... ever considered opening your own jap import business? Lets run through a little scenario. Just 1 container of engines and gearboxes would probably be a good start, lets say 200 engines. A return trip to Japan would set you back, what, $2000? Now that we are there, how long would it take to go to auctions and buy the 200 cars? Ok, now we need a yard to store them in and facilities to strip the engines etc out of them. I hear rent in Japan is pretty cheap, that shouldn't be a problem. Now we have cars in our yard, how long would it take to pull the engine, box, ecu, harness etc out of 200 cars?? remembering of course that the customers back in Australia expect that it will all be whole and unbroken. Maybe get 2 or 3 done a day?? thats another 2 months or so that you're over there, I hope accomodation is cheap. Great, got all these engines out and layed out in the shed. All we need to do is get them packed into a container, arrange transport to the docks, arrange shipping to Australia, take care of customs at the other end and arrange transport to our little factory unit in Sydney, piece of piss mate!!! Shit, need to rent a factory unit too. That couldn't be too expensive. Better hire some staff to keep it open while I go back to Japan and start on the next container... Now we've got our 200 engines etc in the factory unit, whats next?? Ok, we should sell them! That can't be too difficult, we'll stick an add in each of the car mags and wait for all the kiddies to ring up, ask stupid questions, haggle over the price for half an hour, change their minds (I'm guilty of this one more than anybody!) a dozen times or more and generally pull their d*cks. Shouldn't take us more than 3 months or so to get our 200 engines out the door. Afterall, we are selling them cheap!! To invest a conservative $2-300,000 over a period of 9 months in a single container of engines, not to mention the 9 months of my time, I would expect a decent return. I can think of much better ways to invest my cash thanks!!! Damn, what a rant!! I really am becoming a grumpy old prick! [Report message to a moderator]
