2T-G is a good solid engine. Just rebuild it to standard specs and you should be right, especialy if you keep it under 7800rpm. People only have problems with the bits they make themselves. The actual Toyota made 2T-G parts are good. Things go out of tune when people use poor quality throttle linkage setups they made themselves.
If always at 4000-7000rpm, you best get some regrind cams, say 288 degrees, and dial them in. Good idear to lighten the flyhweel. Also very good to take advantage of a 3T crank and pistons. This gives you 1800cc and higher compression, and very easy to do. (Have to machine the 3T-C pistons a tad).
If you need to go to 8000rpm and beyound, you need new valve springs, ballanced bottom end, and good conrod studs and/or conrods.
If you got money, just get a realy big radiator. And maybe a oil cooler. And acurate temp gauges, oil pressure gauges.
