Getting car work done in Melbourne...where should I go? Thu, 25 September 2003 08:17 Go to previous message
I'm going to Melbourne over the next 2 weeks (holidays) and want to finally get some things done on my car. I have no idea about where to go and would be interested in some places that people in the know think would be worth going to.

Here is the list of things I would like to get done to the Soarer:

* New suspension (nothing fancy...just stock suspension that is comfy and I think I have TEMS...i have Electronic Modulated Suspension???)They are starting to squeek and leak

* New roof lining put in...i got it steem cleaned and the glue gave way at 180km/h with the windows down...I need to slow down now we have a cop in town. 1st cop to be in the district in 10 months and speeding can not keep on going on. Razz

* The door trims fixed. I have the Soarer cracks in the doors as well as some terrible ones up the top near where the window shuts. Would there be a place that would fix this (i've heard of the Dashboard Doctor) and the roof as well or would it be best to get a new trim from wreckers?

* A new front spoiler (the piece of black plastic some people paint that some Soarers don't have...I hate gutters!! Mad )

* Maybe, but not necessary, 1 door resprayed after some idiot keyed my door right deep into the paint...grrr and buggered my lock too so I have to open through the passenger door now so a new lock too)

* Either a new lock or remote central locking. I like the sound of that remote central locking that has an alarm, turbo timer and the little key pad with remote engine start. Where could I get one of these supplied and fitted?

*A full overhaul of the engine (basic not rebuild) so I have got the right coolent, oil, gearbox looked at, air filter, belts (i have a new radiator belt but have no idea how to put it on) and I think a timing belt just to be sure (car has 91,000k's), spark plugs...the works

* Get the dash looked at. It sometimes doesn't work on cold mornings. I read somewhere I can get the Cruise Controll upped from the 108 limit when the dash is pulled appart right? I'd like this done too.

* I need a new Air Conditioner Compressor too. And I think the Climate Control Solenoid. I found these on a UK site and they were 58 pounds Confused I'm currently bypassing it now just so I can use the heater as it wasn't working so not sure if I need it or I can bypass it becuase everything seems to be working fine now except for the A/C.

I know there is a lot of stuff there but would appreciate anyone giving me the names of places to check out when i'm in Melbourne. I am a teacher and in the bush so find it impossible to get anyone to look at my car due to time factors and people not having a clue what the car is and being dumbfounded.

Thanks in advance...Steve

P.S. Just reading through this it looks like i've bought a lemon but I am just thinking i've been unlucky. Thats what I keep telling myself anyway!
