Hi guys,
Had a quick look at a few Toyota computers today.

By the looks of it, 5M-E/5M-GE uses the Intel 8051 Microcontroller with either the ROM (read-only memory that stores the program code which runs the ECU) built into the same packaging. i.e. as one physical chip (which is most likely and thats what I heard somewhere).

However, the 7M-GTE looks like the ROM is on a seperate chip, which is rather interesting since I could hook up a ROM emulator to the board and figure out where the ignition maps are as well as what the program code looks like. This opens interesting possibilities in terms of modifications without the need of aftermarket programmable engine management. (Yes, it is possible to figure out where the ignition maps are and yes, it is possible to figure out how the ECU program works by looking at the contents of the ROM Smile

Has anyone had any experience playing with ECUs? Does someone have a spare (working) 7M-GTE computer I can play with along with the wiring information?

Cheers
Nishad
