T18s were marketed by Toyota Aust. as a "macho machine" with a whopping 75hp, which, in comparison to the 4K powered corollas it sold alongside, didn't go too bad. Didn't go too good though, either.
In Japan, they were available in either Corolla or Sprinter form as the "Liftback", with the Levin and Trueno models having a 115hp 2TGEU.
There's a guy in WA who has a website about putting a 3T-GTEU in one, bolt in swap. And using a crossmember from an Aussie AE71 you can put a 4A-GE in, bolt in swap (I think). A 1G-GZE would go in nicely too. Hehe.
Even if you got a dead standard one, got a webber off an Escort, some extractors, and a 4.3:1 diff - burnout machine.
Good luck, not enough of these are done up.
Jon.
BTW, go to "Marks Corolla site" in NZ, and he has some excellent links to TE72s and TE71s, and in his misc pics, there is a pictorial list of every #E7# model built.
