Its getting harder and harder to find your favourite driver during Targa Tasmania. Its become way to competitive and serious and not to mention fucking expensive. A good friend of mine has been in the event many times and he believes the fun is gone and its more like a serious round of the ARC!
Forget about Targa Tasmania and give the Sunday Examiner Tasmanian Classic Challenge a go. This event is very similar to Targa and held in Tasmania (north west coast) over the 2002 November long weekend. Its designed for the average bloke with a normal budget and they cater for old school cars like ours. My brother and I will be entering this year, if work doesn't screw us over at the last minute. Its fast, safe, heaps of fun and very well organised. The rules are no where near as tough as Targa and you don't need the expensive FIA approved belts and helmats. This year we plan to attack even harder and push his liitle Ford to hell and back. If all goes to plan and time permits we will tranfer all the running-gear into a fresh one owner 1980 white two door Escort, which we picked up for a grand last xmas. This little beast will have a few imported upgrades that I have sourced in Sydney over the last couple of weeks. Without letting the cat out of the bag we have a crazy Ford Serria EFI setup, a new 2.3 litre strocker bottom end, Ford Serria 5 speed with a WA built quick shifter kit and a few other secret goodies. The two-door has been on a Jenny Craig diet from hell so this should help us. This event should be heaps of fun if the rain stays away. I dont have the this years prices yet but Cameron usually makes more than enough money through local businesses support. He lives in Tassy and has all the contacts.

This is his show car, which he raced in the Challenge two years ago with a work mate. Not a good plan considering it has wild 17" Simmons and lovely gold paint job. Most of the go fast goodies will come out of this car for this years 2002 Challenge.
