YPB (youpoorbastard)no one replied yet! Mate I have just finished a rebuild on a 18RG. If you have removed all the external bolt-ons(filter bracket et) that's way cool.
To remove the head: first remove the chain tensioner on the RHand side of the timing chain cover,
Remove the cam cover, remove the chain guide on the top of the head 2X12mm bolts. The only way to get the timing chain off, is to remove the cam gears, don't worry about orientation of these bits as you pull them off, as its all timed when you put it back together. Leave the cams installed. At the front and at the RH side of the head where it joins the block, there will be 2 x 12mm nuts, remove these then remove the head bolts CAUTION undo the bolts in a spiral pattern from the outside bolts to the inside. If you don't do this in this pattern and 1/2 a turn at a time, you risk warping the head. When you are SURE all bolts and nuts/studs that were holding the head on are removed, you will find a couple of locations arould the engine where you can use a pry bar to separate the head from the block. DO NOT try to pry between the head and the block. the head might need a little persuasion with rubber mallet, but you should now be able to lift it off.

That's got the head off, now go and buy a Gregory's or Haynes manual, because your'e gonna need it to pull the rest apart, and to re assemble the bloody thing.

regards Chuck.
