The Hachi-Go or AE85 exists ... contrary to what others say, it has a slightly different and weaker chassis. Perhaps the big difference is the fact it had something like a 3TC engine, even less powerful than the 4AC.

"US Market AE8X SR5 and GTS are both designated AE86 for a good reason.

Both have the same uni-body so Toyota needed to get only one set of DOT crash certifications done on the cars, all USA frame is based on the AE86. SR5 on the equipment list however closely resembles a AE85 in Japan, where it came with similar features of less sporty list of equipment.

UEO's car is a AE85, which is structurally less rigid with less reinforcements and certain panels thinner or missing altogether.

Used as it is, it's a much less capable uni-body than that of a AE86, but given the fact that Ueo just based his race car from this frame, he does know that it's also lighter, and reinforcements can be planned and implemented to his specs rather than a pre-existing one. Again, with proper planning and lots of funding, much can be done and the resulting car can hardly be called neither AE86 or 85, but a custom framework which just happened to use the AE85 frame.

From a dinner and long conversation about his project cars, (yes he can go talk forever about his 3 AE86's!!) reveals that pretty much nothing on the car is an AE86...except that his projects always value a naturally aspirated 4A-GE based race engines, and framework that resembles an AE86....perhaps that's the secret to Super AE86's and I guess we can call those projects the 2003 Spec Ae86..."
