On the right path Guys, My idea of welding came from a bloke who builds old plymoth (ie big & heavy) he welded prongs to the chassis front and rear then lifted the car onto an A frame. I was looking at the same approch but the bumper thing sounds much simpler.

Those drawings would be helpfull
was the shell fairly stable on the frame???
