The key to your problem (and a lot of other people's) is the difference between the charge build up on yourself and on the body of the car. This becomes more noticeble in dry weather periods because the air is more highly charged and less of the car's static charge is able to dissipate via the air. It's hard to put your foot on the ground first when you're getting out of the car so as has been said, open the door and use the back of your hand to push the door open. There are a lot less nerves there to get affected by the zap. Try it, it works. After a while you'll get in the habit of doing it automatically. Oh ... if it's really bad put on an anti-static strap but make sure you attach it to a part of the car that is earthed to the body, not on a plastic bumper bar or something similar as some brightsparks do.
