well you can,if you don't mind having a potential bomb in your engine bay. think about it for a second: you have pressurised fuel/air mixture inside the intercooler,and it's sitting in front of,or on top of your engine...
as for intercoolers,I have an std S14 unit for sale.
170x225x60. excellent cond. $80 if you're interested.
