What I have seen done on a Mustang is a crossmember fabricated that bolts where the steering box and idler arm bolt to the chassis rails. The rack and pinion was then mounted off that. Ideally the rack should be in an identical plane as the drag link and I think (and am prepared to be corrected) that the rack ends should be where the inner tie rod ends are located.
I have seen this done on a Mustang and also have seen a kit for the Charger. A friend was going to drop a Rover V8 into a Celica RA40 and was going to go about things the same way.
I need to speak to a few people about this to get their opinions. I'd imagine an RA65 rack might be the go.
